Safeline SL4 emergency stop rope switch from Mechan Controls
The Safeline 4 (SL4) drawstring safety switch from Mechan Controls is designed for emergency stop protection where physical guards are not present, such as conveyors and long production lines. Made of stainless steel 316, this switch is suitable for outdoor applications, applications with hygiene requirements and other situations where high corrosion resistance is required.
The SL4 covers cable runs up to 75 meters and provides constant emergency stop function; cable status indicators on both sides of the housing make tensioning and adjustment quick and error-free.
The reset is done deliberately via the blue reset button, which returns the contacts to the safe Run position. Upon activation, the positive mode mechanism locks automatically, preventing unwanted restarts. The design compensates for thermal expansion and reduces nuisance trips, improving plant availability. The contact configuration 2 NC + 2 NO supports clear separation of safety and auxiliary functions and simplifies integration into existing controls. The SL4 complies with ISO 13850 (EN 418) and IEC 60947-5-5, so the solution meets common requirements from audits and CE files.
Before installation and commissioning, the pull cord is pre-tensioned with a tensioner and attached to the eye bolts of the switch; the correct cord tension is easily read through the indicator windows. In normal operating mode, the safety contacts are closed and the auxiliary contacts are open. When the cord is operated, the optional E-stop is pressed, or the cord is broken, the safety contacts open and the auxiliary contacts close. After mechanical locking, the SL4 can only be released by turning the blue reset button back to Run, in accordance with ISO 13850 (EN 418). These features make the SL4 a practical, reliable and affordable emergency stop rope switch for conveyors and other long lines without physical guards.
